From a cocktail bar in Bangkok to a surprise proposal in Italy
We first met in a 1940s Cuban-inspired cocktail bar in Bangkok. After a few brief but memorable conversations and a kiss goodbye, we promised to keep in touch, hoping we would meet again soon.
We stayed connected through WhatsApp, patiently waiting for the right opportunity to meet again.
Things truly took off when Dave suggested a spontaneous trip to Koh Chang, creating the ideal moment for us to spend quality time together. Preaw discovered a perfect beachfront hotel, where we woke up to the sound of waves, enjoyed kayaking, and fresh seafood dinners. On one adventurous day, we decided to kayak to a nearby island, completely underestimating how far away it was. We ended up rowing back in the dark, laughing all the way as we were treated to an unexpected display of flying fish jumping around our boat.
On the ferry ride back to reality, Dave nervously asked Preaw to officially become his girlfriend.
Six months into our relationship, things were going even better than we'd imagined. We organised a trip to Mukdahan to visit Preaw's family. Secretly, Dave encouraged this trip to happen before our planned summer adventure in Europe, he knew he wanted to propose but wanted to introduce himself properly first.
Our dream European trip finally happened! Starting in Lisbon for a friend's wedding, we travelled to Mallorca, explored Italy, and finished in Copenhagen. During our stay in Italy, Dave arranged a surprise proposal with a photographer in the picturesque town of Manarola, Cinque Terre, less than one year after we first met! Dave convinced Preaw to wake up at 5:30 AM to take sunrise photos over the hills. Luckily, Preaw is incredibly supportive and went along with it, despite waking up to rain. Miraculously, the clouds cleared just in time for the perfect proposal moment.
After returning to Bangkok, we quickly moved into a new apartment. Life became a mix of spontaneous trips, delicious Thai food and sushi dinners, and constantly finding something adventurous to do together during time off from work, whether it's badminton, cycling, exploring new restaurants or cafés, or taking weekend trips somewhere new.
Between our occasional adventures and busy life in Bangkok, we're now joyfully preparing for our wedding celebration on February 14th, 2026. We're excited to share this special day with all of you in Preaw's scenic hometown of Mukdahan. The venue overlooks the Mekong River connecting Thailand and Laos, offering a charming indoor and outdoor setting with live music.
